• Hello,

I have an old HAMO DB 103 and I want to digitalisize it.

The base is of metal(or zamac).

Must the motor be isolated from the base(like you have to do with an old Fleischmann loc).

    Must the decoder be isolated?

    Yours sincerely

  • Must the decoder be isolated?

What are you meaning with this question? Never let any part of a decoder get in contact with whatever metallic parts in the loco. That's why older decoders with wires (without interface) had/have a shrink-on tube around them.

And then there are four wire-colours (directly from the decoder or the interface), red and black - courant from the both sides of the track. Or ... if you want to say that way, the one from the "base", it's the black one. And then there are the wires to the engine, grey and orange. The rest is for the lighting and other purposes.

    Gruss
    Peter
